Staying Warm and Dry

  • Make sure you have the right clothes. Winter time creates different concerns and you need to have lots of blankets as well as warm clothes.
  • Make sure you have your medical supplies ready like any prescriptions (30 days), Activated charcoal, band aids and any warp for wounds. Hydrogen peroxide, and salve like Neosporin. Aspirin and pain pills and a pocket knife.
  • Candles are not only a source of lighting but of heat. Candles also are always good to keep in your vehicle for emergency heat.

Water Concerns

We can live without food much longer than without water, bare requirements for water is a gallon a week per person. If we run out of this water or just didn’t do it for saving, then we can use old water or rainwater we can catch from our rain barrels or downspouts. Remember this type of water requires to be purified.

  • Boiled water
  • Bleach is not only great for cleaning and first aid but great for water purification.
  • For our water supply we should fill up our bathtubs.
  • Our hot water heaters also hold 40 to 50 gallons of water.

Food Concerns

  • Of course can food is best but lets not forget a hand can opener LOL. No electric LOL.
  • Dry food like rice & beans are great.
  • If you have a freezer then lets eat that food first. Your freezer will hold your food cold is unopened for 3-4 days in the summer, longer in the winter before you have a mess.
  • Remember to first take out what you need for a few days and put it in your coolers, so you don’t have to open the freezer.
  • Wrap your coolers and freezer in blankets will help you keep things cold.

Communication Concerns

  • We need to know what happening around us at much as possible. Never know – where the medical areas or water or food distributions may be.
  • Radios: There are solar and wind-up radios that have emergency broadcast as well as charging ports for our cell phones.
  • Cell phones can be of help. They can be charged by your radio and your vehicle.
  • Have a plan of action with your family on how to all touch base and possibly reunite.
