It’s time for changing the batteries in our Smoke Detectors. It’s also time to change out our old ones that have outlived their life expectancy. So what’s best for what areas? Let’s start this month in the kitchen.
Have you had your Smoke Alarm always going off in the kitchen? We go and pull the battery and then forget to put it back in and leave your family unprotested. We don’t need to do that anymore. We just need the right Smoke Detector.
There are two detector types that are normally used: ionization and photoelectric.
- Ionization Smoke Detectors: This type responds more quickly to flaming fires with smaller combustion particles, such as paper burning. It is generally less expensive. Note that ionization smoke detector packages are labeled with an “i.”
- Photoelectric Smoke Detectors: This type is more responsive to fires that begin with a long period of smoldering, such as a cigarette burning in a couch or bedding. Note that photoelectric smoke detector packages are labeled with a “p.”
We need to use both types but let’s be smart on where we put them so we can keep our families safe.
